FROM SANTA CATERINA DELL’ IONO TO SOUTH HURSTVILLE
A LONG HISTORY
The Russo family arrived from Italy in 1983. Originally from the village of Santa Caterina dell’ Iono in the Calabria region, the family is passionate about bringing soulful food from southern Italy to Australian families. Not only is it a healthy Mediterranean diet, it’s about sharing delicious meals with those you love.
Eating is not just a means of sustenance it helps bring and keep families together, to enjoy the company of friends and relish life’s simple pleasures. Embracing the gioie della tavola (“the joys of the table”) and the wellbeing it brings.
Enriching people’s lives and their well-being.
As Hippocrates said,
“Let food be thy medicine”.
Our mission explains the reason for our being – our purpose in this world. We’re bringing some of our family traditions and culture to our new home in Australia. But It goes way beyond just simple nourishment. Enjoying a delicious wholesome meal is only part of the story, celebrating family and friends is equally as important. According to the UNESCO ‘Cultural Heritage List’: “The Mediterranean diet involves a set of skills, knowledge, rituals, symbols and traditions concerning crops, harvesting, fishing, animal husbandry, conservation, processing, cooking, and particularly the sharing and consumption of food.”
There’s a saying in Italy: “a tavola non s’invecchia” — at the table one does not grow old. The longer one can spend at the table, the better.
